A FEW WEEKS AGO, we visited Animal Haven–the animal shelter in SoHo that's been tirelessly devoted to finding homes for abandoned cats and dogs since they were founded in Queens in 1967. Animal Haven runs a range of programs to ensure the welfare of at-risk animals and strengthen pet ownership throughout the tri-state area, as well as a thriving volunteer program. Despite the extraordinary difficulty the last 6 months has presented to all small businesses downtown, especially to those dependent on in-person interaction like an animal shelter, Animal Haven's doors on Centre St. remain open, which is a true feat.

While animal shelters may not be related to Japanese denim, or vinyl, or fashion whatsoever, at the end of the day Blue in Green is part a community–the #bigcommunity–which extends far beyond fashion. It's a community dependent on giving back and doing good. For us, Animal Haven is a shining example of what it means to do just that. So we wanted to share their story. (Plus, getting to hang out with cute dogs for a couple hours is a pretty nice added bonus...!)

This year we’re introducing LIFE IN DENIM: a series about everyday life in denim and our neighbors in NYC. Whether you’re at work in the studio, fixing up an old car in the shop, writing, cooking, cycling, climbing, or recording an album, take a photo and tag us with #lifeindenim on Instagram.
