IF YOU WEAR DENIM AS MUCH AS WE DO, you’ll know that inevitably, there comes the day when your jeans need repair. Whether we’re talking about a summer weight 12oz denim or that heavy duty 20oz selvedge which felt as stiff as a board when you bought it, denim wears over time. And when you’ve got to that point of no return, you’ll want to entrust your jeans to the right person. Repairing denim well is an art. The tailor at your dry cleaning spot around the corner, let’s face it, just might not live up to your expectations.

Currently based in Bushwick, Brooklyn, our new guest tailor Emma Sienkiewycz is a master of that art. With extensive tailoring, patternmaking, and sampling experience, Emma is the one you want to see for everything from standard denim repairs (crotch blowouts, busted rivets, etc), to alterations, to completely bespoke rebuilds. The quality of her finished work truly speaks for itself. We stopped by Emma’s shared studio space to get a slice of her day to day, check out some particularly gnarly repairs, and learn more about her process.
